Daliya Upma / Broken Wheat Upma / Gothuma Upma


Ingredients:


Daliya / Broken Wheat Grains – 2 cups
Channa dal / kadalai paruppu / Bengal dal – 1 tbsp.
Roasted groundnuts
Sliced onion – 1
Curry leaves
Dry Red Chilies
Chopped tomato or ½ cup of curd for sourness
Amchur powder (optional – for the tanginess)
Oil
Salt to taste and a pinch of Sugar

Instructions:

  • ·         Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add channa dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chilies, roasted groundnuts and sliced onions – saute
  • ·         When the onion is slightly brown add chopped tomatoes (optional) and amchur powder
  • ·         When the tomatoes are cooked, add the daliya, salt and sugar. Also this is the time to add curd
  • ·         Mix well, add 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles
