Goan Fish Head Curry

Ingredients:

For masala paste:
Chopped onion – 1 big in size
Dry coconut scraps / powder
Dhania powder / coriander powder
Cumin powder / jeera powder
Green chilies – 3
Curry leaves
Black peppers / powder
Ginger-garlic paste (or ginger and garlic pods separately)
Vinegar(1 or 2 tbsp)
****Add all these ingredients to a small mixer jar and make masala paste and keep it aside. Don’t add too much vinegar.

Other ingredients:
Fish Head – cut into 3 or 4 pieces (I used black pomfret)
Tomato – 1 big in size
Turmeric powder
Chili powder
Fresh Coconut milk (optional)
Salt

Preparation:
  • Heat oil in a sauce pan, add the masala paste to it and sauté for 5-10 mins till the oil seperates
  • Now add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, chili powder and salt. Mix well and cook for 5 mins
  • Add half cup water and when it starts boiling add the fish head – cook for 10 mins
  • Once fish is cooked add coconut milk (optional – I did not add it), let it boil for 5 mins and turn off the burner.
  • Garnish it and serve with Steamed rice
