Lemon Rasam

This is a variation in normal rasam and the difference is instead of using tamarind we use lime. Also i used dal boiled water along with dal itself. But usually mom only uses dal boiled water only.

Ingredients:
Toor dal - 1 cup
Tomato - 2
Lemon - 1 (extract the lime juice)
Sambar masala
Rasam powder / Pepper and Jeera powder
Garlic - 5 to 6 cloves (crushed)
Pearl Onion - 2
Curry leaves
Red chilies
Hing
Mustard and cumin seeds for tempering
Haldi / turmeric powder
Salt

Steps:

  • Boil the dal in cooker with water, 1 tablespoon sambar masala, salt, turmeric powder and chopped tomatoes
  • After 2 to 3 whistles turn off the cooker. Open the cooker and turn on the burner again...but in slow flame....add crushed garlic and the rasam powder
  • In another flame keep a small kadai for tempering. Add oil when its hot add mustard and cumin seeds.
  • Also add crushed onion, curry leaves, red chilies and hing
  • Add the tempering to the boiled mixture and wait till its about to boil but let it boil.
  • Turn it off and add lime juice and chopped coriander leaves.
