Kollu Rasam


Kollu Rasam is one of the few varieties of Rasam which is prepared using boiled Kollu paruppu (horse gram) water instead of normal water. It gives a slightly different taste and more healthy as well.

* Tomato - 1
* Tamarind soaked in water - 1 cup
* Boiled horse gram water

* Coriander powder
* Cumin powder
* Black pepper powder
* Cumin seeds
* Garlic - 4 to 5
* Red chilies - 2
* Turmeric powder
* Salt
* Seasoning: Oil, Mustard, Red chilies, Curry leaves, Hing
* Coriander leaves

Steps:
- In a soup bowl squeeze the tomatoes, add boiled horse gram water and let it boil
- When it boils add the tamarind soaked water to it along with Coriander powder,Cumin powder, Black pepper powder and salt.
- Keep the flame low and in meanwhile in a small kadai prepare the seasoning
- Heat oil, add mustard seeds and when it splitters add curry leaves, hing and red chillies
- Add the seasoning to the hot tomato and tamarind water and wait till it foams (but make sure it doesnt start to boil)
- Turn off the burner before it starts to boil and add chopped coriander leaves
Serve with steamed rice.... or even drink like soup!
