Ingredients:
- White Raddish - 1, washed and cut into thin round slices
- Toor dal / Tuvar dal/ Tuvaram Paruppu - pressure cooked with turmeric powder and 1 tspn Sesame oil
- Pearl onions/Shallots/Chopped onion
- Chopped Tomato - 1, big
- Mustard and Cumin seeds
- Curry leaves
- Hing/Asafoetida powder/Perungaya thool
- Dry Red chilies
- Tamarind pulp (tamarind soaked in warm water and strained)
- Sambar masala or just Coriander powder
- Turmeric powder/Haldi/Manjal thool
- Red Chili powder(optional)
- Salt to taste
- Coriander leaves to garnish
Instructions:
- Heat oil in a Kadai and add Mustard and Cumin seeds
- When it crackles, add curry leaves, dry red chilies and hing
- In a minute, add chopped onion and raddish - saute till slightly brown
- Add chopped tomato, haldi and salt - let it cook till mushy
- Add Sambar masala or simply the chili powder and coriander powder - let it boil for 5-10 minutes till the raddish is cooked well
- Add the cooked toor dal along with the water in which it was cooked- let it boil another 5 minutes
- Add the tamarind pulp, adjust the taste for salt and spicyness
- When it starts boiling again, turn off the burner and garnish with chopped coriander leaves
