Leftover Idli Upma


Ingredients:

  • Crumbled leftover idlis (better kept in the fridge until you prepare since it might become sour)
  • Oil 
  • Mustard and Cumin seeds
  • Chana dal / Kadala paruppu - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal / Ulunthu paruppu - 1 tsp
  • Chopped Onion - 1,medium sized
  • Curry leaves
  • Few peanuts 
  • Green chilies, chopped / Dry Red Chilies
  • Coriander leaves, chopped - for garnish
  • Turmeric powder / Haldi / Manjal thool
  • Lemon juice (optional-use for tanginess only if the idlis are not already sour)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  • Heat oil in a wide pan and add Chana dal and Urad dal
  • As they get slightly brown add Mustard and Cumin seeds and roasted peanuts
  • When it splitters,add curry leaves, chopped onions and chilies- saute
  • When the onions turn translucent add haldi and salt to taste - mix
  • Add the crumbled idlis, mix well and fry in medium flame for few minutes
  • Turn off the flame before it gets burnt at the bottom of the pan
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice
